Dr. Li obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences (Psychiatry) from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and received her doctorate in clinical psychology (DClinPsy) from University College London. Dr. Li is now the Assistant Professor at the Department of Psychology, The University of Hong Kong. She is the Principal Investigator of the Sleep Research Clinic and Laboratory at the University of Hong Kong. Her clinical and research expertise centres on sleep and sleep disorder with a particular emphasis between sleep disturbance and psychopathology.  She is particularly interested in uncovering the processes that contribute to the cause and/or maintenance of chronic insomnia and nightmares, and in delineating how sleep disturbances are linked to the clinical course of psychiatric disorders. Meanwhile, her work aims to make significant advance in the therapeutic interventions for sleep disturbances in the context of psychiatric and medical illnesses, as well as the behavioural intervention and prevention of sleep problems in children and adolescents. To this end, she is actively involved in several randomised controlled trials on the early intervention of sleep problems in adolescents, and the psychological treatments for persistent insomnia and nightmares in psychiatric populations.

Dr. Li has published a number of peer-reviewed journal articles and has been the recipient of several research awards. She received the Elio Lugaresi WASM Award for Sleep Medicine from the World Association of Sleep Medicine in 2009.
